We get it. It’s hard to settle down into studying when you’re dealing with the “why is summer over already?” blues. Is there anything sadder than having to pack away your sunglasses for another year?
So that’s why we’ve asked Rachel from our INTO University of East Anglia team to share her 5 reasons why autumn is amazing. Can she convince you? Read on…
For some people, the end of summer is a sad time as the days get shorter and the time for barbecues, sunbathing and holidays comes to an end. But there’s still plenty to look forward to in autumn! Here are my 5 favourite things about the season:
In autumn the leaves turn such beautiful shades of red, yellow, orange and gold, so you can walk around and enjoy the wonderful colours of nature. There are plenty of trees around the University of East Anglia campus, so it’s a beautiful place to be.
For those who like to cook, autumn is the best time of year. It’s a time to move away from salads and to start making warm, filling foods like soups and stews. Luckily, there are lots of seasonal fruits, berries and vegetables to try, like blackberries, raspberries, apples, pears and pumpkins. I recommended getting together with friends to make some tasty butternut squash soup!
Now that the weather is getting cooler it’s time to pack away your flip-flops and get out your thick fluffy socks! But that doesn’t mean you can’t stay stylish. There are many ways to stay fashionable, like finding the perfect knitted sweater or a brightly coloured scarf.
Halloween is celebrated at the end of October in the UK and US. It’s your chance to dress up in spooky costumes, go out with your friends to a Halloween party, and eat lots of candy. You could also try other traditions, like carving a scary face into a pumpkin!
Bonfire Night is my favourite event of the year. It’s a UK festival celebrated on the 5th November with fireworks and bonfires. There’s always a big display in Norwich city centre; my friends and I like to bundle up in hats, gloves and scarves, and watch the fireworks light up the sky. If you’re studying in the UK, I definitely recommend that you go to a local event.
