Lower intakes of vitamin C can cause cancers of the mouth, throat, vocal chords and lung. On the other hand the absence or deficiency of vitamin D causes rickets in the children. Its deficiency creates common respiratory infections, such as colds and the flu. Its deficiency results in impaired bone mineralization, and leads to bone softening diseases.
The upper limit for vitamin C intake is 2000 mg/day. Up to 10 g/day of vitamin C are sometimes taken for unproven health benefits. High level of vitamin C acidify the urine, cause nausea and diarrhea, promote iron overload and increase risk of kidney stones while the vitamin toxicity results from taking excessive amount. High level of vitamin D cause high risks of heart attacks.
