CIA questionable acts after 9/11 - Question 2

Write a short paper (no more than 10-12 pages double-spaced—not including the title page and reference pages) on any of the following topics: 

(1) Islam is the second largest religion in the world. Some consider it to be very strict and insular, even violent. Others disagree and contend that it is only the extreme outspoken Muslims that create this image. Muslims may view the Western world as secular and decadent. Examine the contrast between Islam and the Western world. Is Islam compatible with Western values?

(2) After 9/11, the CIA adopted many controversial tactics in connection with the interrogation of suspected terrorists captured by the United States or its allies. These included enhanced interrogation techniques, extraordinary rendition, and black sites. Examine these tactics and others. Do you feel that these actions were justified in whole or in part? Were they lawful? Were they effective? The answers are unlikely to be black and white, so consider the arguments that could be made against your position as well.

(3) Any other related topic approved by the instructor in advance.
