FINAL PAPER ASSIGNMENT

Read the article, Welcome to Newburgh, Murder Capital of New York, by Patrick Radden Keefe, http://nymag.com/news/crimelaw/newburgh-2011-10/ thinking of the role of the Mayor, ranking member of local law enforcement, prosecutor, corrections official, Department of Social Services and prominent community leader. Utilizing the information contained in the article and your criminal justice studies respond in detail to the following points for each role:

· Explain the importance of a positive partnership between your office/agency and the community

· Identify existing barriers to a positive, cooperative partnership between your office/agency and the community

· Was the concept of community justice utilized in addressing the violent crime issue? If yes, explain. If no, how could it have been utilized?

· Describe the actions that were necessary to effectively address the gang/crime problem in this community

· Describe what future strategic policy and economic plans will address the issue of juvenile delinquency in this community and the pipeline it provides to gang membership and affiliation

- The paper is due the latest on Wednesday July 31st at 11:59pm - I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY PAPERS AFTER THIS DATE/TIME. Early submissions are strongly encouraged!!

- As with all your previous weekly written assignments, you will submit the paper in an APA format with references. Must include a minimum of two journal articles to support your responses. 

- Need to submit in the provided dropbox so that it can be run through SafeAssign; if I can not run it through SafeAssign, it will not be considered submitted. 

- This paper is 20% of your final grade so its a perfect opportunity for those doing well in the class to "seal the deal" on a great grade and for those struggling to make up some ground and get a better grade.
