Graduate school requires an enormous commitment, professionally, socially, and financially. After getting your undergraduate degree, you may intend to go to graduate school. Is it the right decision for you? Should you go directly from your undergraduate program to grad school? What about e-learning at the graduate level?

There are many things to consider before you take the plunge and commit yourself to this kind of challenge. This is not a decision to make lightly. It can be expensive, both in terms of time and of money, if you make the wrong choice.

While some students attend graduate schools in order to obtain the education they need to pursue their careers, many people do the same because they have become familiar with the world of academia, with the course work, the schedules, the routines, the continual feedback, and the security to be found there. They may not want to face the job market, or cannot picture themselves moving forward. If you are at all unsure about moving directly into graduate school, it is important to really face your motives honestly.

Sometimes working in your chosen field will give you more skills, knowledge and even research that you can carry with you when you do decide to return to school. Graduate students need to work more independently than those in undergraduate programs, so think about taking a few online courses before you take the plunge into a full graduate degree
