Terrorism is categorized as either international or domestic. It is the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. International terrorism has become a widespread threat from groups such as Al Qaeda, Al Shabaab, ISIS and Boko Haram. Many countries in the world have experienced terrorism, and the United States has not been an exception as it was attacked in the 9/11 twin tower bombings.

Terrorists are mostly influenced to call on political and social issues where they use violence as a way to correct the wrongs they feel are done to them. They also try to cover up and attract more people to join their organizations by using religion. Al Qaeda uses Islam as a way of justifying their actions. They believe that by creating terror, they will achieve what they desire to attain.

The effects of terrorism are immense and lead to short-term and long-term impacts on the economies of the attacked countries, leads to death, critical injuries and psychological trauma of the victims. The media coverage that comes with the attacks also creates publicity for the terrorists, which is usually their aim. This then spreads fear on the attacked countries leading to citizens running away and seeking asylum in other countries. There has been an increase in the number of refugees worldwide especially from countries like Syria, Bagdad, Iraq, Pakistan, and Somalia.

The development of terrorism has somewhat hindered globalization benefits like tourism. There are travel advisories issued by countries, which are likely to be attacked, or where terrorists are suspected to reside. People are left feeling vulnerable and are restricted on enjoying their freedom of association. The effects of terrorism continue being felt many years after the attack and the society never really recovers.

Terrorism is a world disaster that should be dealt with at a political and social level by human activists to ensure the safety of humanity.
