2. Outlander (2014-ongoing)

Outlander is a historical time travel drama starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. Like Game Of Thrones, Outlander is based on a book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. Romance is at the center of this story. The series focuses on the adventures of Claire, a World War II nurse, as she is transported to different times in history.

There are currently 4 seasons, but Outlander has been renewed for two more seasons.

3. Narcos (2015-2018)

Narcos is a Netflix original series that has 3 seasons. It’s supposed 4^th season was reset into the first season of Narcos: Mexico. This series is about the true story of Colombia’s most violent and powerful drug cartel kingpin Pablo Escobar. Narcos is filled with thrilling action as it focuses on Escobar’s interactions with other drug lords and skirmishes with law enforcement. Narcos: Mexico (2018-ongoing) is a companion series to Narcos. It focuses on the illegal drug trade in Mexico. 

4. American Gods (2017-ongoing)

American Gods is a fantasy drama TV series based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name. This novel follows a former convict, Shadow Moon, who works for Mr. Wednesday. Moon is introduced to a world of gods, where the Old Gods need to defend their existence against the growing power of the New Gods.

5. The Tudors (2007-2010)

The Tudors is a historical fiction series based on King Henry VIII. It is set in 16^th century England. It tackles the political and romantic conflicts experienced by King Henry VIII as he ruled England. The series is not historically accurate, but the drama is compelling enough to keep you watching.

6. Kingdom (2019-ongoing)

Kingdom is a South Korean TV series that was adapted from the webcomic series The Kingdom of the Gods. The series is a historical thriller that centers on the story of the crown prince Yi-Chang who has to fight off a mysterious undead plague as well as subdue a political coup. 

7. House of Cards (2013-2018)

House of Cards is an American political drama thriller about the story of Congressman Frank Underwood. The series revolves around Underwood’s attempt to rise to a more powerful position after being passed over as Secretary of State. House of Cards is all about manipulation, betrayal, and struggle for power. Sound familiar?

8. Peaky Blinders (2013-ongoing)

Peaky Blinders is an award-winning British crime drama series. The series is set in England after World War I and follows the Shelby crime family and Detective Campbell whose mission is to bring down the gang. Peaky Blinders combines family drama with action. It plays with the idea that social classes and empires inevitably fall.

9. Mad Men (2007-2015)

Mad Men is a period drama set in the 1960s. The series revolves around the life of Don Draper who works for an advertising agency. Aside from the complexities of the advertising industry, Mad Men focuses on the past lives of the characters, particularly of Don Draper.

Outlaw King is a historical action drama film starring Chris Pine. The film is about a 14^th-century Scottish King who launched a guerrilla war against the English King Edward I. He emerges as a hero. It’s not just the costumes and the setting that will remind you of Game of Thrones, this movie is filled with action and gory scenes as well.

It features BoJack Horseman, a 50-something actor whose career peaked in the 90s. He tries to revamp his career as an actor while also trying to  get his life together. BoJack has a dark sense of humor but he and his gang are not hard to love. If you love self-deprecating humor, you’ll absolutely love this show.

12. Always Be My Maybe (2019)

Always Be My Maybe is a romantic comedy film starring two Asian comedians Ali Wong and Randall Park. Always Be My Maybe features the unrequited love story between Marcus and Sasha. But don’t be fooled by the cheesy title and plot. Park’s and Wong’s snarky sense of humor combine to give us an irreverent romantic comedy. Bonus: Keanu Reeves is also in the movie!

13. RuPaul's Drag Race (2009-2019)

Some of the most beloved drag queens were products of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Season 11’s finale aired in May 30, 2019. Relish in the artistry, performances, and drama as 14 queens battle for the crown. There are so many big personalities that you will come to love just from watching RuPaul’s Drag Race. This show may be a reality series, but you’ll be surprised at how much you’ll laugh and cry with these drag queens. 

14. Gloria Bell (2018)

In Gloria Bell, Julianne Moore portrays the role of a middle-aged divorcee who tries to enjoy her life. She goes to clubs to dance. She meets a man named Arnold who has not completely moved on from his past. Instead of love, Gloria learns to love life. 

15. Yesterday (June 2019)

Yesterday is not yet released but it’s definitely something to watch out for. The film has a fairy tale-like story: the protagonist, Jack Malik, wakes up in an alternative world where the Beatles never existed. He then proceeds to play the Beatles’ songs to let this world experience the greatness of the band. Yesterday is a funny, sarcastic way of celebrating the greatness of the Beatles.
