We’ve recently caught up with alumni student Tracey Peiyan Wu from Shenzhen in the south east of China, who studied BSc Marketing at Newcastle University and passed with an upper 2:1. She tells us why she chose to study in Newcastle and why she loved the city.
Newcastle is the best!”
I graduated four years ago, but I still try and persuade people to study in Newcastle, as it’s such a great place to live and study. After my raving reviews, both my little sisters (below middle and right) are now studying in Newcastle and are really enjoying it.
I think Newcastle is the best, read my top three best bits below.
On campus, the enthusiastic staff and professional teachers make you feel at home straight away and they are always at hand if you have any problems whether in life or study.
Moving to a new city can be a little daunting at first but in Newcastle everyone is so friendly and always happy to help if you’re lost or need directions.
I enjoyed visiting the city centre for shopping; there are so many great deals to be had. It was very different from shopping in China that’s for sure!
If you like sports, St. James Park is an ideal place to watch football matches.
The nightlife is great too! There are hundreds of nightclubs and bars where you can have fun with friends. Fresher’s week and Halloween were some of my favourite memories.
We believe study hard, and play hard.”
I joined the Student Union and after two years of progressing, I became the president of the CSSA (Chinese Students and Scholars Association) from 2012 to 2013.
I spent a lot of time helping other Chinese students and now, even though I’m back in China, I’m still building up an alumni circle.
In two days I was able to gather 500 Chinese Newcastle Alumni students. Here is a picture of me with The president of Xiamen University (left) and The Vice-President of Newcastle University (right).
Newcastle is a really special place. And people coming out from this city all love it!”
We met each other while volunteering to help at fresher’s one year. My partner also studied a foundation course with INTO, so we could call INTO cupid. We have been together six years now, two years of which were long distance. Read about to cope with long-distance relationships here.
INTO is the best way to meet international students, and everyone is always happy to talk to you. I’ve made lifelong friends from Africa, Asia, America and Italy to name a few.
“INTO is the best way to meet international students.”
They have different interesting stories. You will learn about their culture, their languages, their games and their fun things. I think a degree is not the only thing you can achieve in the when studying in the UK. Choose to study in Newcastle and you’ll have great experiences too; like when I went to a Holi festival with friends!
I am back in China now, but I left my study abroad experience with a heavy heart and very fond memories indeed.
We think you’ll agree Tracey makes Newcastle sound a very admirable place to live!
