Community Assessment

Introduction

Pignon et al. (2019) opine that community assessment is the process of identification of the assets, the resources, the strengths, and the issues of concern that are faced in a certain community. The resources that are to be examined include the skills, the abilities of the community as well as the healthcare facilities that are found in the community. The determination of the resources that are there in the community will help in the process of determination of the quality of health of the people. The community assessment is as well of importance in that it will allow for the determination of the health concerns and the extent that the health issues are being managed in the community. This paper aims to present the community assessment of the Asian Americans who are living in Lake County in the state of Florida

Defining the Community

The specific area that is being focused on is Lake County in the state of Florida. The community has a total population of 398,321 which is an indication that the community has had a progressive growth rate of 2.68% from the past year. The community is the 19th largest county in the state of Florida. The community has seen an increase of more than 33.79% since 2010. The understanding of the issues that are experienced in the community is based on the different communities that are living in the community.

There are various races living in the community. The largest group that is living in the community are the whites who represent 82.50% of the total population. Ring, Tiemann, and Woolnough (2022) indicate that the other races that are living in Lake County are the black Americans, Asians, American Indians, and Alaska natives representing 10.92%, 2.02%, and 0.42% respectively. In the community, the median age of the population is 46.9. The median age for the male persons in the community is 45.5 while that of the female is 48.4.  The adults in the community make up 278,957 people. There is 91,815 person who represents the seniors. There is one issue of concern in the community which is the high dependency ratio of 84.8 age dependency ration, 49.1 old age dependency ration, and 35.8 child dependency ratio (Guzzardo, 2022).
