Change Management Aspects that Directly Affect Elements of Patients’ Experiences

To identify aspects of change management that impact patients’ experiences, we must first define and analyze the elements of patients’ experiences. Oben (2020) defines patients’ experiences as interactions that patients and their families have with the care systems. Elements of patients’ experiences include but are not limited to effective communication with caregivers, ease of accessing information, feeling of self-worth and being cared for, and feeling of trust and being trusted. Several aspects of change management directly affect these elements. According to Errida & Lotfi (2021), stakeholder engagement, communication, leadership alignment, and the organization’s design may directly affect elements of patients’ experiences.

Healthcare stakeholders play a role in influencing care provision in various care organizations. Their engagement in the care process can help leverage the available resources required to enhance patients’ experiences. Leadership alignment is also necessary since leaders inspire organizational vision in their employees. Leadership alignment towards changes that enhance patients’ experiences will have ripple effects on the patients. Communication is another significant aspect of change management that may affect caregivers and, ultimately, the patients. Effective communication of the change process to caregivers may enhance their buy-in to change processes. This may be particularly beneficial if the change process impacts patient experiences.

The Rationale for Coordinated Care Plans Based on Ethical Decision Making

The ethical decision-making approach bases clinical decisions on ethical provisions. The nursing code of ethics plays a role in this regard. These provisions help nurses in their clinical decision-making processes and help them navigate presenting ethical challenges. Ethical approaches in coordinating care imply that all caregivers use the code of ethics provisions in their clinical decisions. The ethical codes of beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and autonomy are significant in this respect. The consequence of ethical approaches in care is often evident in patient satisfaction and enhanced clinical outcomes (Varkey, 2020). Patient satisfaction is enhanced when clinicians involve their patients in designing therapeutic plans for them, allowing them to make independent decisions about their health. Clinical outcomes are enhanced because clinicians select therapeutic options that promote the welfare of their patients and do no harm to them. An underlying assumption in the ethical approach to care is the absence of cultural influences and other interpersonal experiences on clinicians’ decision-making processes.
