Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9)
The persons who helped in the creation of the PHQ-9 were Kurt Kroenke and his colleagues at Columbia University. The assessment tool was developed in the 1990s as the PHQ with PHQ-9 was created in 1999 with the grants of Pfizer.
The publication of the tool was done by Columbia University.
The PHQ-9 tool was mainly developed to assess adolescents. The tool helps in the process of examination of the capability of inclusion and the aspect of suicidal attempts that one may have had. Along these lines, the tool is used in the process of screening for the issues of depression in adolescent persons. The tool has been instrumental in that it has helped in the improvement of the understanding of the steps that are taken when handling patient needs and the tool is carried out by persons who are affected.
The advantage of making use of this tool in the screening of adolescents is that it will help in the process of validation of the positive aspects of change for the population. This is expected to help in the development of the necessary interventions as it ensures that one can be able to learn how to manage the issues of adolescent lives and the current depression condition of a person. This is as well an important aspect since it helps in the creation of an identifiable means of change in the basis of putting in place the score and the depressive needs of the patient.
The application of this tool in the screening of the youth is found to be instrumental in that it allows for the creation of knowledge-based on putting the standards of change and care on the patient needs. This is an important step in the examination of the screening measures of the adolescents as per Naveed et al. (2019). The tool as well helps in the determination of the mental health condition of the patient and the necessary steps that are supported by the basis of needs of the patient….
