DISCUSSION NRS 440 Topic 2 DQ 1

Interprofessional collaboration is a process involving jointly advantageous active participation between independent professionals in which each member of the health care team has knowledge and skills that underwrite to the care provided and their relationships are governed by negotiated shared norms and visions (Melkamu et al., 2020). Teamwork and collaboration are competencies expected of healthcare professionals and refer to functioning effectively within nursing and interprofessional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision making to achieve quality patient care (Masters, 2017). Collaboration requires communication among team members involved where every professional take part of their clinical expertise, that is within their scope of practice.

Interdisciplinary team conference can be considered interprofessional collaboration. The more eyes laid on the patient, the more chances of reducing, if not eliminate errors. All members of the interprofessional healthcare team must combine their skills knowledge, and resources to improve outcomes, and nurses and physicians must modify their traditional roles and work more collaboratively as colleagues (Masters, 2017).NRS 440 Topic 2 DQ 1

The trend that is being helpful nowadays is the emergence of electronic medical record (EMR). With paperless charting, communication is now accessible electronically. A good example is the platform (data software) used by big healthcare systems such as Ascension (formerly Amita) and Duly Health (formerly Dupage Medical Group) in Illinois. These two systems can now view each other’s chartings provided the patient consented on merging data. This makes it easier for medical providers provide continuity of care without waiting for fax or hard copy of diagnostics or lab results as well as progress notes.
