DQ Why is understanding the health care system at the local level important to consider when planning an EBP implementation?

Understanding the health care system at the local level is important to consider when planning the implementation. This is because improving the quality of life and healthcare of the society and community as a whole is an essential part of public health. At the local level is where one can understand the most popular demands, necessities and weaknesses of society and allows the healthcare field as a whole to improve in its treatment of individuals of various different backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, and lifestyles. Nurses can utilize what they learn from everyday interactions and health needs within their own life and community to crossmatch with others to see if the problems that one individual faces is similar to that of others. This allows public health workers to be more community focused and improve patient outcome in targeted populations. The specific needs of a specific and localized demographic can be treated to so that wellbeing in the community flourishes and there is no lack of proper access to care for everyone. Furthermore, local organizations and health programs are created in order to address weaknesses in gaining equitable healthcare and other disparities so researching these organizations, why they were formed, their goal, and solutions that they have created so far allow bigger institutions and organizations to take that information into account so that a longer lasting positive impact can be made on the organization and the population. For example, in low income communities, poverty and lack of access to resources is high so a program that provides annual free checkups could decrease disease in that certain community and focus on demographics of that community allows bigger organizations to be prepared to properly treat each type of individual.

Local health programs and systems are significant in improving access to preventive healthcare services, engaging citizens in trying to make more health conscious decisions, and seeking out lower costs for medical services with the use of programs and state institutions (Why Community Health is important for public health, 2022). Furthermore, the implementation of evience based practice can be first done in a local level with a smaller population to test its success in that community so that resources are not wasted on it in a larger scale in the future when it is used in a large organization or institution (Warren et al, 2016). It is important as well for nurses to understand the strengths and weaknesses of using evidence based practice within an organization and how to use it properly so that they can provide the most qualitative and equitable care to the patients that they see on a regular day to day basis. The needs of the local community are typically the roots of the most common problem so identifying it and finding a solution even in the smallest of communities will give rise to success
