In addition, there are circumstances when applying intuition or personal experiences are
ideal and advantageous in making clinical decisions as a social worker. In situation 1, intuition
has merit in making decisions for a client or group when there is a chance of familiarity with the
circumstance faced by the client. Thus, intuition enables a social worker to reach an accurate
diagnosis and empowers the clinician to make a better-integrated judgment to a client matter. For
example, a social counselor handling several clients each day, there was a time a young girl that
had faced trauma came into my office (Welsh, 2018). The girl was withdrawn and never wanted
to utter a word to anyone, especially my male colleagues. Given my previous integrations with

rape or molested victims, my intuition came into play as I ushered the girl to a special room
where she could feel free and safe to talk with the aid of a female colleague. In due time, we
manage to retrieve more information as the girl confessed to her ordeal of child molestation at
the hands of her guardian. Thus, in this scenario, my intuition was advantageous as we managed
to get more information from the client and provide the ideal help needed in time with an
accurate diagnosis.
