Education for my patient on coping with the diagnosis of community-acquired
pneumonia would include prevention of future recurrence. This would include providing good
oral care with the use of prescribed medications for COPD, and if on nebulizer treatments,
rinsing of the medication administration apparatus. Personal hygiene and cleaning equipment
reduce the risk of infection in patients with compromised health (Cutler & Davis, 2005).
For diabetic management, education would include adherence to prescribed medications
and compliance with following up with appointments. Keeping a diary to bring with him to all
his appointments. Maintaining a healthy diet and discussing concerns that prevent adherence
with his health care provider who can be a resource for community assistance, counseling, and
home care services for regular education if needed. Home health services can also assist with the
management of other comorbidities that affect his general health. If caregivers are available,
education can be extended to them to assist the patient to succeed, (Sefah et al, 2020
