Identify the importance of the IOM “Future of Nursing” report related to nursing practice, nursing education and nursing workforce development.

Effective workforce planning and policymaking require better data collection and an improved information infrastructure (IOM, 2011) The IOM committee proposed improved regulations and building up infrastructure that will ensure more dependable data collection. This will also go along with the analysis of interprofessional data of the workforce to help nurse leaders in making decisions about hiring to fill up shortages and adjustments in healthcare. According to Thew Jennifer, (2019). There is now a collection of data on nurse education programs, and nurses' demand and supply in 25 states in the US. Role of State-based Action Coalitions In 2010, IOM released the report tagged "The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health" with far-reaching recommendations relating to roles for nurses in the improved healthcare environment. To help implement the recommendations of the report, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) launched the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action (Altman SH, et al., 2016). The actions had to be taken not just at the federal level but also at the state levels throughout the healthcare system for the expected change to occur and this led The Campaign for Action to develop State-based Coalitions to address the recommendations of the IOM report. AARP and RWJF are working with Action Coalitions that are coming together in states across the country, which are made up of diverse groups of stakeholders involving providers, policymakers, consumers, and businesses that can influence long-term sustainable change (Hassmiller B. Susan, 2011)
