Introduction Although both a registered nurse (RN) and an advanced practice nurse are trained healthcare professionals, their scope of practice varies based on their level of education. Acknowledging the role differences between the two positions is important to understand the transition that occurs when an experienced RN becomes an advanced nurse practitioner (APN). This period of transition and role development involves several phases (Stewart & DeNisco, 2019). New nurses graduate every year every at every level of education and begin to work in the clinical setting. They gain experience over time as they move from novice to expert. In that regard, this paper discusses an interview with an APN about their role transition and the role development phases
