Justification for the FNP Choice of Specialty and Related Professional Organization

The main justification for choosing the FNP specialty over the PMHNP specialty was because the former allows the practitioner to treat all types of diseases and injuries for all age groups or across the lifespan. This means that all that the practitioner has learnt and trained for will be put to use instead of being pigeonholed with a singular focus. This is in comparison to the PMHNP who only treats diseases of a mental origin and cannot therefore competently treat other conditions (or at least is not allowed according to their licensure and certification).
The most prominent professional nursing organization that is related to my FNP specialization of choice is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners or AANP. It brings together all nurse practitioners in the country and is instrumental in their professional development by providing a platform for sharing experiences and research output. To inspire professionalism and commitment to the course of being a nurse practitioner and an important cog in the wheel of primary health care; the AANP has a recognition program. If one makes a significant contribution to the specialty (such as in teaching or groundbreaking research), they can be invited to be bestowed the respected title of Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners or FAANP (Rossiter et al., 2017). Membership of the association is by subscription either as a student or a practicing NP.Final Component of Academic & Professional Development Plan.
