N 502 -Health Care Systems Module 4 Assignment Part I

Pelham Medical Center is my most recent healthcare organization where I worked as clinical nurse in charge of admission and treatment of various patients. The organization has a well-integrated health information system for coordination and management of resources. The health information system at Pelham Medical Center is represented in the diagram below.

The health information has two major components including information system for patient care and managerial information system. Information systems for patient care component has different sub-components including patient management system, clinical information system, and system for clinical support services. The clinical information system connects the entire system to the databases through electronic medical records (Abugabah et al., 2020). Overall, information system for patient care components plays a vital role in patient care. They help to manage and monitor patients’ medical records, clinical information and support services. All of these components work together to provide better patient care. This component is also responsible for managing the various clinical information systems. It ensures that information is accurately recorded and tracked. This system also helps to identify areas where improvements can be made. The clinical information system provides important clinical data that helps doctors and other healthcare professionals make decisions about patient care (Farzandipour et al., 2020). This system includes patients’ medical records, laboratory test results and other important information. The system for clinical support services provides important support services to healthcare professionals. These services include online resources, expert advice and training materials.

Managerial information system has managerial information database is a database that stores data about the performance of a business, including financial data, sales data, and workforce data. The purpose of this database is to provide managers with the information they need to make informed decisions about the direction of the business.

There are both advantages and challenges that come with using the above health information system. On the plus side, electronic health records (EHRs) often help to improve patient care by providing instant access to important medical information (Bharti et al., 2020). This always help to facilitate better communication between different members of the care team, and prevent medication errors. Additionally, EHRs always make it easier for healthcare organization to track and monitor patients’ progress over time. On the downside, however, implementing and maintaining this information system is expensive and challenging. Health IT infrastructure is often complicated, which makes training of staff members on how to use the system frustratingly difficult.
