The development of standardized nursing languages (SNLs) have been evolutionary with many focused on the core aspect of enhancing communication leading to better patient outcomes. The use of different SNLs may arise due to the complexity of care continuum and diversity in population served by the facility. In their study, Fennelly et al. (2021) posit that nursing facilities should use nursing-specific SNLs for better integration and communication among the different providers. In this case, the most common nursing specific SNLs for the facility include North American Nursing Diagnosis (NANDA), Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC), Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC), and Omaha System. For instance, the Omaha System is designed for documentation and improvement of nursing practice and was developed initially for multidisciplinary staff members in home care, public health and for educators. The system is used by nurses, therapists and physicians among other healthcare providers. The selected SNLs are essential in the facility as they target nurses and can be integrated to enhance communication with other providers.

The implementation of SNLs in the facility will offer the organization a host of benefits that include effective and accurate communication among nurses as they will use one approach to patient management and care delivery. For instance, the use of computerized nursing documentation systems located near patients leads to more patient-centered and regular documentation (Ziebarth, 2018). Further, the use of SNLs improves patient care as providers, especially nurses can identify patient complaints, especially the common aspects of such events for better care provision.

The development of nomenclature for nurses is aided through the use of standardized nursing languages (SNLs). Nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals will derive the most benefits from the implementation of the SNLs in the facility. Further, the management and patients, and inter-professional and multidisciplinary teams will be at the forefront of attaining most of these benefits.

Technical Issues, Determination of Success and Using Course Concepts

The implementation of SNLs may encounter technical issues that include incompatibility with organizational information technology systems like the EHRs system, ineffective interoperability, and possible documentation challenges related to the integration with different organizational processes and procedures. The concepts will be integrated through their application to identify an appropriate topic for research for the MSN practicum project. The concepts will also be instrumental in developing interventions to enhance quality provision in the practicum project.
