The family conflict encompasses hostility, resentment, arguments with the family dynamics and,
if not resolved, can lead to chaos (Rothenberg, Solis, Hussong, & Chassin, 2017). Family
conflict is also associated with various dysfunction such as social and parental dysfunction
(Rothenberg et al., 2017). Furthermore, the family case involves the identification of dual
cultures from the children's perspective. Hence this paper aims to analyze the family conflict and
establish a differential diagnosis applicable to the family.

HPI: Mrs. P is the Mother in the video, 40 years old, and her five children, including three
daughters aged 24, 23, 21 and two sons aged 18 and 15 years, presented here for family therapy.
The Mother immigrated from Iran to the U.S. with her four children, two daughters, and two
youngest sons, and left her youngest daughter in Iran. The two daughters were born in the U.S.
The Mother tries to return to the U.S. with the daughters for medical reasons and escape from
traumatic events back home. The youngest daughter who was behind was allegedly abused
physically, emotionally, and sexually by her estranged ex-husband. The daughter finally joined
them, and chaos occurred within the family. The Mother worked as a caregiver raising her
children and tried to mend relations with her ex-husband, but it did not work out. The Mother
became disabled due to two failed surgeries and now seeking help from her children. The Mother
reports loneliness and depression while adjusting to her situation. The daughters live away from
home, and the problem is also frustrating to the Mother. The Mother reports cultural issues
regarding the expectation from back home. The children want their Mother to be patient, learn
new hobbies, and not try to exert control over their lives because they are adults experiencing the
potential. [Masterwork production (2003):]
