NURS 6053 Assignment: Developing Organizational Policies and Practices Assignment: Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

A major focus of any organization is usually on achieving organizational goals. As a result, organizations can achieve such goals by sharing responsibility with their employees. However, competing needs frequently arise during such efforts. Because there is always conflict in this area, leaders must establish priorities and allocate resources accordingly (Suhonen et al., 2018). Patients, resources, and the workforce are three of the most common sources of contention. Furthermore, practices such as reducing education benefits, using unlicensed assisting personnel, and mandating overtime can all lead to conflicts. The goal of this paper is to investigate the organization’s competing needs. As a result, various aspects will be investigated, such as a description of the competing needs, relevant organizational policy, and a recommendation for a policy or practice change.

The Conflicting Needs

As previously stated, nurse burnout is the organization’s major issue, necessitating the use of appropriate strategies to address it and improve outcomes. However, there are a number of competing needs. Among the competing needs are the need for competent experts to provide nurses with training in self-care workshops, stress management skills, and mindfulness. The organization must have a relevant information technology system in place where the trained skills can be put to use. According to the analysis, the organization has a limited number of skilled individuals who can provide the necessary burnout staff training (Chaghari et al., 2017). As a result, such inadequacy may derail nurses’ efforts to teach them about various aspects of burnout management.

The situation indicates two competing needs: more experts to retrain the nurses and the acquisition of the right information technology system that will allow the nurses to perform various tasks smoothly and efficiently for better output. The information technology system is critical, but it can also be a complicated endeavor because it may require the integration of multiple interfaces for data sharing (Fukada, 2018). As a result, professionals and experts with the necessary skills, competency, and experience may be required to provide the appropriate level of care. The implication is that the organization must invest appropriately in the acquisition of competent professionals and information technology in order to achieve better results.

to address it. As a result, one of the policies or practices that can have an impact is the organization’s requirement that employees participate in mandatory professional training and development on a regular basis. The organization may also require nurses to attend a variety of organized conferences and workshops that address common care setting issues such as nurse competency and nurse burnout (Chaghari et al., 2017). The implication is that nursing staff would need to attend regular training sessions in order to improve their skills, provide the appropriate levels of care, and avoid the effects of nurse burnout.
