Identifying the problem The MSN program that I am completing is the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty. The issue or problem that will be researched as a part of this course is the management of pain and prevention of opioid addiction. The opioid crisis is in the news with increasing frequency, as a problem that is plaguing the medical community. It is imperative that providers figure out how to balance pain relief and drug seeking behavior. Library Search Strategies The search strategies that were employed were focused on opioid addiction and pain relief. The literature that I reviewed were articles on opioid substitution therapy (OST), and the effectiveness of replacing one drug with another such as methadone. There is research being conducted on the use of Tramadol as an effective substitution.
