Nursing is a profession that encounters numerous moral issues on a daily basis. As a result of the increasing number of ethical problems in health care, we as health professionals now have the information and abilities to react properly. It’s also crucial for nurses to be able to recognize and deal with ethical problems. The concept of how competing requirements, such as personnel, resources, and patient requirements, may affect policy formation is investigated in this debate. Coronavirus (COVID-19), a competing need that may influence the national health/stress issue, will also be discussed. Finally, specific instances of effects will be discussed, as well as how policy may satisfy these competing needs.

Competing Needs Pertain to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The lack of nurses in our nation is becoming more acute. According to studies, the scarcity of nurses is caused by a lack of nurse educators, a high turnover rate, and a lack of personnel to train clinicians (Haddad & Toney-Butler, 2019). Nurses are tired from stress and their anticipated role in delivering excellent treatment due to the high volume and excess work of nurses and clients. As per Haddad and Tony-Butler (2019), a nursing shortage leads to nurse discontent, which is associated with increased morbidity and death. These problems need policy reforms as well as mitigating strategies. Some states are fighting legislation to acquire a patented care balance that will help patients stay in care longer (Haddad & Toney-Butler, 2019). This contributes to the aim of delivering safe and effective patient care.
The lack of nursing personnel is a particularly pressing problem that must be addressed as the new health-care system is swamped by a novel coronavirus that has spread throughout the country. Nurses, who already are experiencing medical shortages, are fighting the coronavirus in a dangerous setting, putting their health at risk. Medical care professionals in China, especially nurses, endure long hours, difficult procedures, the possibility of medical misconduct, and circumstances that jeopardize their personal and interpersonal health (Thielking, 2020).
Development of Policies to Address Nursing Shortage
Leaders must strike a balance between the demands of nursing job and the time available to nurses. Healthcare organizations and management teams must establish policies and processes to guarantee that the correct number of nurses are available for patients at all times. The supervisor must interact with the nurse, take into account the patient’s sensitivity, and play a constructive role in the nurse’s satisfaction. Nursing fatigue, errors, and preventable issues may be avoided by adhering to laws and regulations on a regular basis, particularly in the absence of personnel.
Conclusion
In order to offer better and secure patient care in their everyday job, nurses must grasp ethical concepts. To ensure the safety of both patients and nurses, stringent rules and regulations are required. To offer high-quality and safe patient care, policies are required to address the threat of caregiver shortages of nurses. Coronavirus is a health issue and a danger that is common among medical personnel, who are already short on personnel. Overall, the creation of suitable rules, procedures, and regulations will aid in the protection of frontline workers, the reduction of nursing shortages, and the achievement of the ultimate aim of enhancing everyone’s health and well-being.
