Overview of Gaming PC: Features and Limitations

  •

PC’s are available in many different sizes to suit the user’s needs; these all provide different services. A PC has a lot of freedom and the user is in control you as the user are able to determine what you want the PC to be able to do and what you want the user to be able to access e. g. if you were in a library the PC may be limited to what it can do so that you use the PC for working or research purposes only and the games may be blocked.

Activities available on PC’s include:

  • Streaming
  • Gaming
  • Working (assignment and other documented work)
  • Animation & digital work.

The first computer game to be introduced was known as; ‘Spacewar!’, this was a multiplayer game which included flight simulation and it included avoiding obstacles in space and shooting down enemies. It was developed in 1962 by Steve Russel and his colleagues (Wayne Wiitanen, Steve Piner, Martin Graetz & Bob Saunders).

Features:

  • Power supply unit
  • SSD
  • Graphics cards
  • Motherboard
  • CPU
  • RAM
  • CPU water cooler.

Any of the above can change at any time because newer versions can be released, this means that constant development of PC’s take place giving them a longer life than something like an Arcade machine. More popular companies that supply the above are AMD, NVidia and Intel.

PC’s do not have a lot of limitations because they are very free and configurable, so the users are able to get exactly what they want and play a game exactly how they want to, the only limitations I can think of would be the speed of the PC, when gaming on a PC the speed of your PC can decrease and this is one limitation.

Another limitation is that the user is unable to play console games on a pc and has to purchase them separately. A final limitation of PC’s is that the user may not have enough money to purchase updates for the PC. He may not be able to buy the latest parts and software needed to maintain a quality PC as it can cost a lot (around £1000+).

Gameplay on a PC is based on the quality of your PC, if you have fitted your PC with good powerful parts like a fast CPU and a water-cooling system then your game will run very smoothly compared to someone who has bought a cheaper low standard PC. Overall the gaming experience all comes down to how much you have spent on your PC because if you have spent a lot of money and bought a high end PC then you will have a better experience gaming.

To conclude PC’s are heavily customizable and allow the user to use it in whichever way they would prefer to, for this reason it will last a lot longer than consoles. The main reason behind this is that with a console the user is not able to customize it too much and has to still keep some of the standard settings, this may not suit the user whereas in a PC these settings can be altered and removed if required.
