Population health is described as focussing on the aggregate health of a population group as opposed to individual impact. Population health refers to the health status and health outcomes within a group rather than focusing on one individual at a time. In public health, the health care providers improve population health by understanding and optimizing the population’s health (Delgado et al., 2021). The social determinants of health and critical population health concerns impact society. The social determinants of health are conditions in which people are born, live, work, age, and grow. These include socioeconomic status, education, physical environment, employment, social support networks, and access to healthcare.
Population health concerns is a field that focuses on the outcomes, disparities, risk factors, and determinants of health. It also focuses on how these issues can be solved by assessing the available interventions and policies to help the population have better health outcomes and improved quality of life (Delgado et al., 2021). Socioeconomic status underlies three major health determinants: environmental exposure, healthcare access, and health behaviour. Chronic health issues linked with lower socioeconomic status may also increase mortality and morbidity.
Socioeconomic status impacts the population’s health since it impacts the ability of people to purchase health-promoting resources and treatments, socialization of early health habits and continuing socialization of health habits differs by socioeconomic status, and it has been posited that rather than socioeconomic status impacting health, health also impacts socioeconomic status. People with poor health complete fewer years of school, miss more work, and earn lower incomes.
