In nursing practicums, students are supervised by a registered nurse who serves as their mentor. Practicum students help with paperwork and other supportive duties, and while their work doesn’t include hands-on patient care, they do have chances to observe working nurses as they care for patients.Professional Practicum In HealthCare Centers.

Nursing student internships include more responsibility than practicums, since they require direct patient care. Tasks include feeding and dressing patients, administering medication, assisting with tests and procedures, and helping develop and implement patient care plans. Interns work with the nursing staff in a clinical setting, and are closely supervised by a registered nurse who monitors and reports their progress to their nursing school.

Nursing student internships and practicums take place in a healthcare setting, where students can gain the experience they need to succeed in their future careers. Potential internship settings include hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and doctor’s offices. Students’ nursing schools help place them in an internship or practicum environment that suits their academic needs and career goals. Online nursing schools can help students find approved internships or practicums located close enough for a practical commute.Professional Practicum In HealthCare Centers.

Interprofessional Collaboration

The past week has been full of lessons that I can reflect on. In particular, the week’s reflections will be about what I have learnt and experienced with regard to the concept of interprofessional collaboration. The week has been very eventful, given that the country in general and the Kingston Healthcare facility in particular are in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. At the Kingston facility in California, a three-pronged approach has been adopted to curb the spread of the virus. I have seen that this multifaceted intervention cannot be possible without interprofessional collaboration. The interventions are (i) health education and promotion to the surrounding community to continue wearing masks, physical distancing, and washing hands regularly even after inoculation (Korang et al., 2020; Li et al., 2020; Qian & Jiang, 2020); (ii) administering vaccinations against the Covid-19 disease; and (iii) monitoring, reporting, and managing adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) if and when they occur.Professional Practicum In HealthCare Centers.

Interprofessional collaboration refers to the act of consulting colleagues in other healthcare professions but who work together with you in the management of the condition of a patient (Moriel et al., 2017; Green & Johnson, 2015). If one is a nurse, these colleagues would be the physician, the physical therapist, the dietician, the pharmacist, and the nurse assistant among others.Professional Practicum In HealthCare Centers. In implementing the Covid-19 prevention strategies at Kingston Healthcare, I have seen that nurses work closely with physicians in following orders entered in the computerized provider order entry or CPOE. Before administering medications prescribed for Covid-19, I have also seen nurses consulting the pharmacist to ascertain and confirm the dosages prescribed and the possible side effects to be expected. In the same vein, I have seen nurses and dieticians working closely together to ensure that admitted Covid-19 patients get the best possible balanced diet on a daily basis to facilitate full recovery. This experience of interprofessional collaboration will help me in my clinical practice.
