There are several pieces that is the puzzle of nursing. As nurses, one of our biggest duties is to provide our patients with safety, and proper medical care. In order to do this, several measures should be implemented and set in place. These measures are indicators that are evidenced-based and are components of quality nursing. For the purposes of this paper, I have chosen the quality indicator of prevention, because in the specialty of psychiatry, or behavioral health, prevention is key in order to provide patients with quality care and to meet their needs. According to , “quality indicators are standardized, evidenced-based measures of health care quality that can be used with readily availablehospital inpatient administrative data to measure and track clinical performance and outcomes” (n.d.). Prevention quality “identifies issues of access to outpatient care, including appropriate follow-up care after hospital discharge” (n.d.). In inpatient mental health, my facility has what is called, “the revolving door.
