Nurses should be full partners, with physicians and other health professionals, in redesigning health care in the United States. The IOM committee identified the significant impact of nurses on working with other team members within an interdisciplinary setting. Nurses are the healthcare professionals who spend the most time face-to-face t with patients and are the driving force for change and the development of evidence-based practice. The IOM recommended extension of opportunities for nurses to lead and circulate improvement processes that are collaborative (Thew Jennifer, 2019). The required course to allow nurses to work in partnership with other health professionals at The University of Pittsburgh, for example, was raised from one in 2011 to four courses in 2016.
