Step 2: Professional Development Goals Use the space below to write a statement identifying your professional development goals.

Having been in nursing management for so long as evidenced by my curriculum vitae above, it is to be expected that I would have some clear-cut professional goals which I need to achieve. One of these professional development goals is the perfection and entrenching of transformational nursing leadership. This is the kind of nurse leadership that creates a nursing workplace that is conducive to work in and free of intimidation and fear (Choi et al., 2016). The nurses working under a transformational nurse leader are happy, feel appreciated, are motivated to deliver, and are not afraid to report mistakes because they know that there will be no victimization or blame. In a nutshell, the nurses working under a transformational nurse leader or manager are empowered (Asiri et al., 2016). Because of this empowerment, the quality of service that this kind of empowered and motivated nursing workforce delivers is very high. What follows is that overall patient outcomes improve and both the nurses and the nurse manager get to develop professionally. This is why transformational leadership is one of my professional goals. I expect to learn a lot about the factors that motivate nurses and what makes them perform beyond expectations through this practicing of transformational leadership.

The second professional goal I have as a nurse leader is the continuation of evidence-based practice or EBP advocacy and training. As a leader, I intend to continue acting as a model EBP advocate by instituting or inspiring clinical inquiry initiatives at the workplace. Through advocacy and action on ensuring only nursing practices backed by evidence are maintained, I intend to not only facilitate the generation of new knowledge from which I will also learn but also to lead by example. The third and last professional development goal that I have is to continue being a teacher and mentor by making publications and conference presentations through the various professional nursing organizations of which I am a member. By making conference and seminar presentations ob new research and EB findings, I will not only be teaching others but will also be learning a lot myself.     NURS 6003N – Part 6: Finalizing the Plan.
