The Nurse Leader as a Knowledge Worker Nursing informatics is reforming the healthcare practice with an emphasis on improved access to patient data, quality of care provided, patient experience and outcomes, and reduced healthcare cost and treatment errors. Healthcare systems are paying more attention to the use of Evidence-Base Practice (EBP) and the use to information technology for effective collection, analysis, management, and communication of data to enhance access, collaboration, information dissemination to achieve excellence in nursing (Kerfoot, 2015, p 342). This presentation will explain the concept of a knowledge worker, nursing informatics, and the nurse leader's role as a knowledge worker. I will utilize infographics to explain the concept of a knowledge worker and share a hypothetical scenario from the discussion class. The Knowledge Worker The use of technology in healthcare has brought about a change in how nurse leaders gather, process, and use information to make informed decisions. The nurse as a knowledge worker is a concept that relates to the way nurses make use of evidence-based practice (EBP) and the various technologies adopted in the gathering, processing, and analysis of clinical data to determine a trend and how to individualize patient care for improved outcomes. Healthcare practice and information technology have become inseparable as nurses use the power of information technology to improve the care they provide (Nagle et al., 2017).
