The Nurse’s Role in Coordinating Care to Enhance Quality and Reduce Costs

Nurses play an integral role in improving healthcare service quality and reducing costs

associated with patient safety issues. This is because nurses are involved in all aspects of

healthcare quality for example bedside patient care and monitoring, medication management,

and data collection. According to Flaubert et al. (2021), nurses also oversee the activities of other

healthcare providers like LPN caregivers and CNAs to ensure that patients get quality care and

reduce costs associated with human errors. In addition, nurses educate patients and their families

before discharge to ensure continuity of care and adherence to medications to avoid readmissions

and adverse drug events. Lastly, nurses coordinate care by updating patients’ new development to

other team members since they spend most of their time in facilities with patients, unlike other

healthcare providers. This information is crucial for changing care plans for example in case of

new allergic reactions to drugs thus promoting patient safety and reducing costs associated with

medication errors (Flaubert et al., 2021)
