Discuss the correlation between nursing education and positive patient outcomes

Introduction

There is a strong positive correlation between nursing education and positive patient
outcomes since higher levels of education lead to mastery of essential clinical skills, better
interprofessional collaboration, and higher working efficiency by the nurse (Chism, 2016). High
nursing education enables a nurse professional to delivery high-quality care centered on the
unique needs of patients due to better patient communication and engagement in planning the
nursing care (White, 2015). Accordingly, the current research studies demonstrate that higher
nursing education leads to high patient safety outcomes due to a reduction of medical errors and
an evidence-based practice approach that focuses each patient’s unique needs. Advanced degrees
in nursing help nurses gain competencies to practice in acute and critical care settings, where
they provide safe nursing care to patients in a critical stage of illness (Chism, 2016).
Based on some real-life experiences, I agree with the research since advanced degrees in
nursing enables a nurse to achieve a detailed understanding of emerging nursing concepts and
evidence-based practices that foster patient safety (White, 2015). I agree that higher education
will sharpen existing nursing competencies and abilities that promote patient safety through
eliminating medical errors due to keen attention of the nurse and high proficiency in nursing care
planning (Chism, 2016).
