Two Practice-Specific Concepts to My Nursing Practice Moral Courage

 

 

 

I have always used the concept of moral courage to achieve my goals as a Nurse Leader. Many caregivers “offer their services in complex medical situations or environments” (Hobbs, 2009, p. 56). Many Nurse Leaders (NLs) “encounter numerous workplace challenges and problems” (Edmonson, 2010, p. 4). Workplace conflicts “are common because nurses and caregivers portray a wide range of disagreements” (Hobbs, 2009, p. 56). Many NPs use effective strategies to deal with different health challenges. However, moral distress “occurs whenever such conflicts and misunderstandings get out of hand” (Edmonson, 2010, p. 8). A large number of caregivers encounter numerous workplace differences and disagreements. These obstacles affect the performance of different caregivers. This development makes it impossible for many healthcare facilities to deliver adequate medical support to their patients (Edmonson, 2010).

The above discussion explains why “a large number of NPs encounter different forms of stress” (Edmonson, 2010, p. 12). I have embraced the concept of moral courage throughout my nursing practice. My goal is to change every challenging situation. This practice can produce the best outcomes. I have been reading widely in an attempt to acquire new skills and ideas. I have embraced new ideas “to make accurate decisions and cope with stress” (Edmonson, 2010, p. 12). Nurse Leaders should identify the moral conflicts and obstacles affecting their healthcare institutions. NLs should become “the best source of compliments, support, empowerment, and guidelines” (Hobbs, 2009, p. 54). Moral courage has become a powerful concept that supports my goals as a Nurse Leader. I have managed to address many ethical situations and conflicts in my facility. I am also planning to use this nursing concept in my future practice. This practice will support my future goals as a Nurse Leader.

Critical Thinking

Nurse Managers (NMs) and NLs should be good critical thinkers. Healthcare providers “should make adequate decisions whenever providing the best care to their clients” (Hobbs, 2009, p. 54). Such healthcare providers must make appropriate decisions whenever dealing with various health problems. Nurse Leaders encounter numerous “ethical situations and problems” (Butts & Rich, 2010, p. 64). That being the case, critical thinking is a powerful concept that can produce the targeted nursing results. Every Nurse Leader (NL) should use “reasoned and evidence-based ideas to offer accurate ideas” (Butts & Rich, 2010, p. 65).

Critical thinking makes it easier for many Nurse Managers (NMs) to understand the issues affecting their employees. NMs should also identify the most appropriate concepts that can deal with different healthcare problems. Caregivers should “analyze different arguments before making their final decisions” (Roussel, 2012, p. 13). Critical thinking is a powerful aspect of my nursing philosophy. The strategy makes it easier for me to identify the issues affecting my workmates, employees, and patients. I have always used this concept to make the best decisions. Such decisions have transformed the effectiveness of many working environments.

The “four meta-paradigms of nursing encourage medical practitioners to focus on the best healthcare outcomes” (Butts & Rich, 2010, p. 62). My nursing philosophy combines “the power of critical thinking and moral courage” (Butts & Rich, 2010, p. 89).
