Use the space below to write a statement proposing how you might align one or more of your professional development goals with the University’s emphasis on social change.

Walden University has a philosophy that aligns it to the policy of social change. This means that throughout its academic programs, it seeks to bring about positive social change and general social transformation towards wellness and functionality. For this reason, I hereby present the way two of my professional development goals as discussed above align with the Walden University philosophy of social change. NURS 6003N – Part 6: Finalizing the Plan.

The first is transformational nursing. I have discussed above how this style of nursing leadership provides a safe and conducive workplace. What this means is that this kind of nursing leadership creates an environment at the workplace that is defined by psychological safety (Lyman et al., 2020). Psychological safety in turn means that nurses are not exposed to burnout and mental stress that may make them non-functional at work and at home. This reduces cases of suicidality and lack of family cohesion, hence impacting positive social change.

The second and last professional development goal that aligns with the concept of social change is the advocacy for EBP. By exclusively practicing EBP nursing, the patient population receives only the best quality care that is proven to be effective, efficient, safe, timely, patient-centered, and equitable (Tzelepis et al., 2015). A healthy and happier populace means better social cohesion and social advancement. NURS 6003N – Part 6: Finalizing the Plan.
