What do you think is most necessary for learning to occur in your current organization?

Topic 4 DQ 1

An organization’s capacity is based on the learning potential of its employees. Continuous improvement programs are mushrooming everywhere as organizations endeavour to better themselves and become more competitive. However, continuous improvement calls for a commitment to learning among employees (Serrat, 2017). The factors necessary to promote learning in my current organization include employee motivation, readiness for learning and adequate learning resources.

Motivation to learn is the most crucial factor to influence employees to learn and thus foster learning in the organization. If employees have no motivation to learn, any effort will be futile. The more the employee motivation, the better the learning process will be (Kinsella et al., 2018). Employees should also have clear-cut goals for learning to direct them appropriately. Readiness for learning has a similar impact as motivation. If employees are ready to learn, they will grow motivation to learn. In addition to readiness, a strong determination among the employees is necessary to overcome barriers and challenges when learning (Kinsella et al., 2018). Adequate resources need to be allocated to support learning in the organization in terms of space, time, specialist support staff, finances, and learning infrastructure (Serrat, 2017). The organization needs to focus on planned learning, which is addressed by carefully establishing strategy, structure, systems, procedures, and plans.

The organization would benefit from implementing a training program on Infection Prevention and Control (

IPC). This is because IPC is a significant challenge for health care systems and organizations globally. However, there is an opportunity to minimize preventable morbidity and mortality by improving IPC. IPC is a vital component of healthcare quality and patient safety, and all healthcare providers should be well-versed with measures to improve IPC in the patient care setting. Training the employees can help to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), thus promoting better patient outcomes and reducing associated healthcare costs.
