What is the role of state-based action coalitions and how do they advance goals of the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action?

Nurses should achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression. Quality and improved education produce knowledgeable nurses, who and well-prepared to eventually become nursing leaders. Building a formidable educational base is necessary for developing strong nursing leaders. For example, the IOM recommended 80% of nurses be equipped with BSN degrees by 2020 and the number of BSN-prepared nurses has risen from 49% of employed BSN- prepared nurses in 2010 to 56% in 2017. The 80% projected goal will likely be achieved by 2029 (Thew Jennifer, 2019). RNs who enrolled in Baccalaureate programs to advance their degree also increased from 77,259 in 2010 to 130,345 in 2014 (Eastman, 2016).
