The key concepts being explored in the study entails specifically assessing the emotional
reactions of different older adults with various contexts, characteristics, and types of abuse
experiences. In particular, the researcher sought to bridge the gap of earlier studies by
investigating the consequences of the victimization experiences (Santos et al., 2017). For
instance, the researchers delved not only into types of abuse experienced with older adults but
also the extent of the relationship with the perpetrator.
At the same time, the researchers used measures, the ordinal measurement model, as their
ordered relationships in the variable under study. The four institutions applied standardized
questionnaires with few variations. The methods were adequate for replication as the survey was
divided into two phases. The first phase interviews were conducted for the focus groups to assess
clarity and comprehensiveness (Cisler et al., 2012).
How were research reactivity and bias managed in the study?
Biasness and reactivity were managed in the study by tailoring the fieldwork procedures,
especially for data collection and recruitment aligned to specific institutions' structure and
organization. At the same time, both institutions used professionals to assist with data collection
and recruitment, in conjunction with social workers and psychologists APAV, physicians in
INMCF, and police officers in GNR (Santos et al., 2019).
