A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a terminal degree that prepares nurses at the highest level of professional nursing practice for advanced roles as clinical and health care leaders. The nurse will develop the understanding to translate nursing science with knowledge from ethics, the biophysical, psychosocial, analytical and organizational sciences into the growing complexity of today’s healthcare system. The DNP degree gains credibility by promoting the doctorate as the appropriate clinical degree to practice like other notable disciplines such as physical and occupational therapy, psychology and pharmacology disciplines. Nursing doctoral programs are classified as research-focused and practice-focused. The practice- focused terminal degree places more emphasis on the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) applying evidence-based knowledge into practice with the final project demonstrating ways in which research can change or enhance practice (Chism, 2016).The DNP Essentials define the curricular fundamentals and competencies that are necessary in DNP programs. The expected outcomes for Chamberlain's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program meets the American Association of Colleges of Nurses curriculum standards and will help transition this student into a leadership role as a Nurse Entrepreneur (American Association of Colleges ofNursing (AACN), 2006, p. 8).This paper is to provide a reflective summary on selected DNP competencies acquired through the Concepts in Population Health Outcomes NR704 course and present a self-assessment of skills, knowledge, and integrative abilities to meet the three sub- competencies of DNP Essential VII (AACN, 2006) as a result of active learning throughout this course
