Definitions and Theoretical Models of Addiction

In my view, addiction is the inability of a person to stop the use of a drug, alcohol or to change their behavior. This is possible even one is suffering in their physical and psychological status. It is important to note that addition does not only imply that one is dependent on illicit substances such as cocaine or heroin but even the behavior of a person.

The theoretical model that has been selected is the exposure theories or the biological model. This is based on the assumption that after one is introduced to a substance of a certain behavior regularly there is a high risk of that person becoming addicted (Byrne et al., 2019). This model as we believe that the occurrence of addition is based on biology in that on the introduction of a substance to the body there is a metabolic adjustment that pushes one to continue using the substance and that one may end up needing more and more substance to get the satisfaction…
